General Info

Walking into Max Kitchen Taiwanese Cuisine feels like stepping into a familiar neighborhood spot where comfort food takes center stage. Located at 12 Oteha Valley Road Extension, Albany, Auckland 0632, New Zealand, this Taiwanese restaurant keeps things simple, warm, and focused on flavor. The space is relaxed and welcoming, making it easy to settle in whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite or planning a longer meal with friends.

The menu leans heavily into classic Taiwanese favorites, and that’s exactly where it shines. One of the most talked-about dishes is the Taiwan Style Beef Noodle, served with rich broth, tender beef, and noodles that soak up every bit of flavor. It’s the kind of dish that feels both hearty and comforting. For diners who enjoy bold, traditional flavors, the Taiwanese Stinky Tofu delivers an authentic experience that’s unapologetically true to its roots. It’s a standout that often sparks lively reviews and conversations at the table.

Another menu highlight is the Traditional Tainan Braised Pork on Rice, a staple that balances savory, slightly sweet notes with soft, slow-cooked pork. The 台式猪排饭 Taiwan Style Pork Cutlet offers a satisfying crunch paired with fluffy rice, making it a reliable choice for anyone craving something filling. Then there’s the 3 Sauce Chicken, layered with flavor and cooked in a way that feels home-style rather than overworked.

From a service point of view, Max Kitchen Taiwanese Cuisine keeps things practical and guest-friendly. The restaurant supports dine-in service and works well for solo dining as well as groups, which adds to its versatility. Reservations are accepted, helping guests plan ahead, and debit cards are welcomed for easy payment. The overall flow of service feels calm and unforced, allowing diners to enjoy their food without feeling rushed.

As a local spot, this restaurant has built a reputation through consistent food quality rather than flashy presentation. Its location in Albany makes it accessible, while the menu and atmosphere encourage repeat visits. What customers say?

“ Never had Taiwanese food, first time for everything. Looks like a nice place for hot pot. - Braised beef brisket on rice 7.5/10 Meat was nice, perfer no membrane on the meat, though. Was nice with rice. The cucumber might be a Taiwanese thing. - Chicken on rice (forgot actual name) 7/10 Similar set up for takeaway, same amount for everything as the braised beef. Chicken was moist, not fan of bones. Whatever the green sauce was is really good. ”

“ Overall, I had a great experience here. The family who owned and worked it were great and they had a passion to serve and connect their food to the Albany community. I had hit out and find it good. It was unique flavors and spices as I am used to Sichuan style. This was much more mild and tame in comparison. The ingredients were good and fresh. I would return. ”

“ Tip top Taiwanese food. Great choice of Taiwanese dishes so if you haven’t tried it before, this place is good to start. Friendly, casual service with super delicious food. Prices are also pretty reasonable, where we got a fair amount of food for just over $50. ”

“ Best Taiwan cuisine in north shore for me. Having been there around 10 times. All noodles are excellent and authentic Taiwan taste. They also offer options of slim rice noodle. Three sauces chicken is a must order! The small dishes go with rice are also delicious and they will change, giving you different experiences every time! Dumping , either by steaming or by frying, are delicious. Looks like the restaurant is run by a family, have the vibe of a warm and hardworking family at the back kitchen. Everything is Perfect! ”

“ Had such a lovely experience dining here. If you’re craving classic Taiwanese dishes, this is the best by far, in Akl. The stinky tofu was similar to the night market offerings in TW. Other classics we tried were beef noodle soup, 3 cup chicken, pork braised noodles etc. Delicious! Service is great too. Will be coming back again! ”

“ This restaurant has so much potential and honestly they should be so busy. The service is great. The food was pretty tasty, they have this chilli oil to die for its so delicious. They should jar it and sell it My only suggestions, the restaurant was a bit cold and the music was more suited to a spa than a Taiwanese restaurant. We highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely go back again ”

“ Best taste of Taiwan that I know about as a Taiwanese person. It would be good if they cleared the tables as soon as people finished rather than left them there, but other than that I like coming here. The stinky tofu is very authentic. ”

“ Come and support these guys! Great service and some good wholesome Taiwanese food! We had the stinky tofu, traditional Tainan braised pork on rice, braised beef noodle soup, 3 sauce chicken and the soy bean paste with mince noodle dishes. The stinky tofu was tasty and was served with Taiwanese pickles and a side of chili oil sauce. The traditional Tainan braised pork was delicious. Great flavors. The 3 sauce chicken (3 cup chicken) came out in a sizzling pot and was also delicious! The braised beef noodle soup is one of their signature dishes which was flavorsome….as with the soy bean noodle dish. Highly recommend, come and try some great Taiwanese dishes! ”
